ACT Public Schools to Get Major Infrastructure Upgrades

The ACT Government is upgrading public school infrastructure so that every local school is a great school.

Public schools across Canberra will receive nearly $30 million in upgrades as part of the latest round of the ACT Government's annual public school infrastructure upgrades program.

Just over $23 million will go towards projects in 44 ACT public schools that have been selected following an application process.

The remaining funds will be allocated towards high priority school upgrades as identified throughout the coming year, including inclusive infrastructure upgrades that ensure ACT public schools continue to meet the needs of all students.

Minister for Education and Youth Affairs Yvette Berry said the ACT Government continues to invest in ensuring that no child in Canberra is left behind.

"Building on the success of last year's program, which saw just over $22 million allocated across 37 schools, this year's program will deliver infrastructure upgrades to 44 ACT public schools," Minister Berry said.

"These works ensure every child has access to modern, accessible and sustainable school infrastructure and facilities to support a high-quality education."

This year, 61 infrastructure upgrade projects in 44 ACT public schools are being funded, including:

  • Fifteen schools in the Belconnen region
  • Eleven schools in the North/Gungahlin region
  • Eight schools in the South and Weston region, and
  • Ten schools in the Tuggeranong region.

"Projects include improved classrooms, upgrades to improve accessibility in our schools, new and upgraded outdoor learning areas, new and upgraded walkways and access ramps, landscaping works, improved staff facilities and improved administration areas," Minister Berry said.

"The ACT Government continues to invest in our public schools to ensure they are great places for students to learn, and great places for staff to work."

This funding is part of the ACT Government's investment of around $100 million in renewing and upgrading public schools across Canberra in this term of Government, and forms part of the more than a billion-dollar pipeline of projects for public education facilities over the coming decade, as outlined in the ACT Government's Education Infrastructure Plan.
