Detectives have charged a man following an altercation in Gympie yesterday (Sunday, September 1) which left a man with critical injuries.
It will be alleged about 2.30pm two men - aged 53 and 31- were leaving a shop on Excelsior Road when they exchanged words with a 26-year-old man known to them.
This escalated into an alleged physical confrontation between the trio before the 53 and 31-year-old men left in their white utility.
They headed north on the Bruce Highway before stopping at a red traffic light at the intersection of Monkland Street at around 2.45pm.
Police will allege a silver hatch back stopped next them and the man from the earlier altercation got out of the car and approached the white utility.
Another altercation allegedly occurred between the group during which time the 31-year-old man sustained serious stab wounds to his chest, back and leg.
He was then driven to Gympie Hospital in the white utility.
The 26-year-old man also drove to the hospital where another argument occurred with the 53-year-old Sexton man before security officers separated the men and contacted police.
A 26-year-old Gympie man has been charged with one count each of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of a knife in a public place. He will appear in the Gympie Magistrates Court today, September 2.
The driver of the utility, a 31-year-old Amamoor Creek man, was airlifted to the Prince Charles Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
