Additional Charge Laid After Man Dies - SF Sestao

An additional charge has been laid after a man died in hospital following an alleged assault in Sydney's west this week.

Just after 8pm (Tuesday 5 November 2024), emergency services were called to a licenced premises on Merriville Road, Kellyville Ridge, following reports of an assault.

On arrival, officers attached to Riverstone Police Area Command were told a man had allegedly punched a 55-year-old man, leaving the scene prior to police attending.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the injured man before he was taken to Westmead Hospital with critical injuries.

Detectives from Riverstone Police Area Command established Strike Force Sestao to investigate the circumstances surrounding the assault, assisted by NWMR Detectives and the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad.

Following inquiries, a 43-year-old man was charged and remains before the courts.

Police were notified that the 55-year-old man died in hospital yesterday (Friday 8 November 2024).

The 43-year-old man has now been charged with assault occasioning death. He is next due to appear at Blacktown Local Court on Thursday 21 November 2024.

Investigations into the incident continue.
