The Townsville Local Disaster Management Group (TLDMG) is supporting the Townsville Hospital and Health Service (THHS) to open an additional COVID-19 testing site today (20 December 2021) from 2 - 4pm.
The drive-through testing site, to be operated by Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology, will be established at the Reid Park Complex on Boundary Street in Railway Estate.
This site is in addition to the testing site at the 1300 Smiles Stadium, which has seen an increase in demand for testing from the community.
"The THHS is currently managing a number of COVID cases which, understandably, has heightened community concerns," TLDMG chairperson and Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said.
"It is vital that anyone with symptoms of COVID-19 come forward and get tested so we can identify and take steps to limit any local transmission as quickly as possible.
"The best defence against COVID is to get vaccinated and I urge all Townsville residents who haven't been vaccinated to do so as soon as possible."
Members of the public wanting to be tested must bring photo identification and their Medicare card with them.
