More than $3 million in funding has been unlocked to widen a section of the Carnarvon Highway between Injune and Rolleston.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the Federal Government contributed an additional $1.63 million under Round Six of the Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program towards these works.
"These works are part of our priority to improve safety and heavy vehicle productivity across the nation," Mr McCormack said.
"Local residents, farmers, miners and producers who use the Carnarvon Highway will all benefit from these upgrades.
"It's all part of the Federal Government's record $100 billion investment in infrastructure projects getting Australians to where they need to be sooner and safer."
Queensland Minister for Transport and Main Roads Mark Bailey said it was part of a $14.5 billion commitment by the state government to upgrade regional Queensland roads, supporting more than 13,500 jobs.
"This region generates more than $19 billion for our state's economy every year," Mr Bailey said.
"This funding will widen approximately 2.7 kilometres and extend five culverts."
Federal Member for Maranoa David Littleproud said once completed, these works will ensure that the road is safer between Injune and Rolleston.
"Safer roads save lives. They also create jobs and we have a plan to make country roads safer right across the nation," Mr Littleproud said.
The project has been jointly funded with both the Australian and Queensland governments committing $1.63 million.
