Council has been successful in a funding application for the purchase and installation of five new bus shelters across the Snowy Monaro, under round two of the Transport for NSW Country Passenger Transport Infrastructure Grants Scheme (CPTIGS).
This $57,500 in grant funding is in addition to funding Council received under CPTIGS round one, funding the installation of seven additional bus shelters across the region.
Locations funded under round two of the Country Passenger Transport Infrastructure Grants Scheme:
Berridale: Highdale Car Park
Three new bus shelters will be installed within Highdale Car Park, Berridale. The precise locations will be determined in collaboration with the community. Local businesses have already received letters seeking feedback on the proposed locations.
The locations identified by Council staff ensure pedestrians of all abilities can access the new shelters easily and safely from the car park.
Cooma: Intersection of Mittagang Road and Rydal Road & intersection of Mittagang Road and Snowy Creek Avenue
These locations were selected based on community feedback. Residents in this growing part of Cooma advised Council that local schoolchildren required safe and convenient access to bus shelters.
The exact locations will be determined following further discussions with bus companies, local students, their parents or guardians, and residents.
Installation of these new bus shelters is scheduled for November 2023, weather permitting. Service at these new locations will commence following the completion of an access compliance report, which verifies the new infrastructure complies with access standards and regulations.
The design of these shelters meets the required Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport (DSAPT) and the limited grant-funded budget for this project. The same design used for shelters installed under round one CPTIGS funding will be used again for this latest funding round.
