Minister for Women and the Prevention of Family Violence, Madeleine Ogilvie, has welcomed today's commitments from National Cabinet to further bolster efforts to prevent family violence.
"We need innovative approaches to better identify high-risk perpetrators and stop violence from escalating, and Tasmania has been leading the way with initiatives like its groundbreaking electronic monitoring program," said Minister Ogilvie.
"Tasmania welcomes the Commonwealth's commitment to investing a further $3.9 billion over five years from 1 July 2025."
"This additional funding will boost the efforts already underway in Tasmania as we aim to break the cycle of violence and find creative and innovative approaches to prevent this kind of behaviour.
"We have a vital role in coordinating ongoing cross-jurisdictional work to achieve the shared goal of ending gender-based violence and our government's 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future is about keeping women and children safe."
National Cabinet agreed to negotiate a renewed, five year National Partnership Agreement on Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence Responses, to commence on 1 July 2025, which will deliver over $700 million in new matched investments from the Commonwealth and states and territories.
The Commonwealth will also provide funding to establish national standards for men's behaviour change.
Tasmania is investing $100 million into the Third Family and Sexual Violence Action Plan: Survivors at the Centre.
