A man has been arrested following an incident at an Adelaide bus depot earlier this morning.
About 5.45am on Saturday 12 October, patrols were called to Franklin Street, Adelaide, after reports an intoxicated man entered a chartered coach loaded with passengers and attempted to drive it away.
When police arrived on scene the man was in the driver's seat and in an agitated state. Police approached the man and requested he leave the bus however he refused. Patrols attempted to remove the man from the driver's seat when two officers were repeatedly punched to the head.
Police used capsicum spray in an attempt to subdue the man however it was unsuccessful, and he continued to attempt to drive the bus.
Officers arrived on scene to assist and a third member was kicked to the head and he suffered a split lip.
PD Edge was called in to assist with removing the man from the bus, but he was also assaulted, and his handler was punched in the face.
Police tasered the man but were unsuccessful in releasing the man from the driver's seat. Capsicum spray was used a second time on the man, and he was successfully removed from the bus and arrested.
A 28-year-old man from Adelaide, has been taken to hospital where he will be medically assessed before being charged. He is likely to be charged with four counts of assaulting an emergency worker, attempt illegal use and resisting arrest.
Two officers were taken to hospital where they are being treated, one member suffered an eye injury and a second officer suffered a head injury after being assaulted.
There were approximately 40 passengers on the bus at the time however no passengers were injured as a result of the incident.
