Adelaide tram workers will stop work for three hours tomorrow to take part in a mass meeting regarding their Enterprise Agreement dispute with tram operator Torrens Connect.
Tram workers will cease work between 11am and 2pm tomorrow (Friday 25 August 2023).
Rail, Tram and Bus Union (RTBU) Assistant National Secretary Shayne Kummerfeld said the Protected Industrial Action was a regrettable consequence of Torrens Connect's failure to engage in meaningful negotiations with its employees.
"Tram workers are seeking a fair pay rise that keeps pace with the rising cost of living, and conditions that support safe and secure tram services for commuters.
"Torrens Connect, however, are playing hard ball and are refusing to meet the modest and reasonable demands of their workers.
"Workers have tried to ensure that peak services are not affected by this action, but commuters are advised to plan ahead and seek alternative transport options during the middle of the day.
Mr Kummerfeld said tram workers had asked for a 3-year Enterprise Agreement including a pay rise of 3% per year or CPI - whichever is greater.
"The onus is firmly on Torrens Connect to come back to the negotiating table with a better offer to prevent this dispute from escalating further."
