Advancing Health Outcomes in Community

Tasmanian Government

More than 30 organisations will be able to help promote better community health outcomes in the new year.

Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing, Roger Jaensch, said 31 Tasmanian organisations have been successful in the latest round of the Healthy Tasmania Grants Program.

"The Step Forward grants provide organisations with up to $5000 that can be used for a range of activities and equipment to keep people healthy and well by preventing rather than treating illness," Minister Jaensch said.

"The grants are an important part of the Government's commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of all Tasmanians.

"Preventive health initiatives like the Step Forward grants are important to help Tasmanians to live healthy and active lives, but also to reduce the pressure on our health system.

"This latest round provides almost $150,000 in funding for initiatives across the State, with projects involving education about eating well and nutrition, reducing barriers to physical activity, enabling better access to mental health support and equipment for community gardens.

"These projects are run by community organisations for their local communities and will improve and maintain the health and wellbeing of individuals.

"Our Government is committed to making our State the best place to live, work and raise a family as part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, which is exactly what these grants do."

The Tasmanian Government committed $8 million over four years towards the fund under its Healthy Tasmania Strategic Plan.
