The Federal Advocacy page includes information on a range of policy changes and projects that Council would like considered as part of the upcoming federal election to boost the ongoing rejuvenation of our vibrant City. These priorities have been informed by the Council Plan, Council Strategies and through community consultation.
Council's requests focus on key areas of national interest, including social housing, federal funding programs, major transport infrastructure, action on climate change and redevelopment of key precincts and buildings within our municipality.
This includes advocating for the Australian Government to partner with Council to help redevelop the South Melbourne Town Hall, which has reached the end of its lifespan and requires significant renewal works. Council is also requesting the Australian Government partner with the City of Port Phillip and the Victorian Government to commit to the early delivery of tram infrastructure serving Sandridge and Wirraway precincts in Fishermans Bend, to maximise jobs and provide an anchor for development.
The delivery of these priorities will encourage renewed visitation and patronage to local businesses, create jobs, while providing much-needed infrastructure for our community to enhance the liveability of our City for years to come.
City of Port Phillip Mayor Marcus Pearl said: "My fellow Councillors and Council Officers are engaging with local candidates on these priorities as well as advocating to the relevant ministers and shadow ministers to secure opportunities for a better City of Port Phillip, now and into the future."
"With the announcement of the upcoming federal election, we will continue to advocate for the projects we know our community needs and wants."
Council is committed to making its goals transparent and to keeping our community informed regarding federal election priorities. The election pledges of candidates within the City of Port Phillip will be shared via our Federal Advocacy website.
