- Cook Labor Government's Affordable Airfares Program returns for 2025
- Reduced cost for leisure travel between Perth and Broome, Exmouth and Kununurra
- Program supports regional tourism and makes travel more affordable for Western Australians
The Cook Labor Government's Affordable Airfares Program is back for its seventh consecutive year, continuing to make travel within Western Australia more affordable for residents and visitors.
As part of this year's initiative, funding has been allocated to Airnorth, Nexus Airlines, Qantas and Virgin Australia to provide discounted airfares on services between Perth and Broome, Kununurra and Exmouth.
The Affordable Airfares Program (AAP) will offer (dependent on dates of travel):
- Virgin Australia discounted airfares from Perth to Broome from $179 and $199 one-way; and from Perth to Kununurra from $259 one-way;
- Qantas discounted airfares from Perth to Exmouth from $199 and $209 one-way;
- Airnorth discounted airfares between Broome to Kununurra, from $199 one-way; and
- Nexus Airlines discounted airfares between Broome and Kununurra from $199 one-way.
The program helps to improve the affordability of regional airfares throughout WA and drive visitors to key tourism hubs that heavily depend on air access.
This year's AAP will also support air travel to regional events by increasing the number of discount fares available over key event periods including the Ord Valley Muster in Kununurra and Shinju Matsuri in Broome.
Since its inception in 2018, the Affordable Airfares Program has sold nearly 150,000 fares, including over 32,000 in 2024 for services into Broome, Kununurra, and Exmouth.
In year ending September 2024, overnight visitor spend in WA's five tourism regions reached $14.4 billion - a growth of 31 per cent since 2019.
This program is in addition to the Cook Labor Government's flagship Regional Airfare Zone Cap, which supports regional residents with cost-of-living pressures by capping the total airfare amount they pay for flights to and from Perth to either $199 or $299 one-way, when booked as a return fare for personal travel.
