Amateur footballers, coaches and fans are descending on Fremantle for the 41st AFL Masters National Carnival, which kicks off this Sunday, 29 September.
The seven-day national carnival is the largest mass-participation event in the Australian Rules Football events calendar, attracting more than 1,700 participants from 64 teams across Australia, in addition to thousands of supporters and spectators for on and off-field activities.
Players will compete across eight age groups, ranging from over 35s to over 70s, who will play a demonstration match on Monday, 30 September.
Carnival activities include an all-abilities match, two Indigenous showcase matches, novelty sprints and a longest kick competition, along with music and DJ performances which make it perfect for families and fans of all ages with all events free to attend.
Other ticketed events include the AFL Masters Golf Classic in Maylands, the AFL Masters High Tea Cruise on the Swan River, the AFL Masters Hall of Fame, a family day on Rottnest Island, and the 2024 AFL Masters Gala Night at Optus Stadium.
Matches will be at South Fremantle and East Fremantle Football Clubs, Fremantle Park, Dick Lawrence Oval, and Tom Perrott Reserve.
Mass participation events form a core part of the WA Government's overarching event strategy, generating tens of millions of dollars each year for the local economy through visitor spend.
