The AFP has welcomed 28 new police members ready to be deployed across Australia following their graduation last week (12 November, 2024).
The class of 21 men and seven women bring a wealth of varied experience to the AFP, having previously worked in industries such as law enforcement, sales and marketing, defence, security management, trades, retail, and corrective services.
They include a former mechanic, NSW Police Force communications operator, an Australian Border Force member, a sound engineer, and a registrar with the Victorian Magistrates Court.
The new members join 230 other recruits who have already graduated in 2024, and they will deploy into various roles nationally, including at AFP national headquarters in Canberra, as well as commands throughout Australia.
Constable Aaron Nielsen said he was proud to have graduated alongside classmates with whom he formed a strong bond while undertaking training.
"The best part of the course for me was constantly being challenged and step-by-step reaching my full potential, while sharing that experience with a diverse group of people who become your closest friends," Const Nielsen said.
AFP Superintendent Rowena Penfold said the training program for this class of recruits marked a significant milestone for the AFP, with the launch of a revised curriculum designed to incorporate the latest practices and policies.
"The AFP has modernised the way it delivers recruit training, with the first two weeks of the course delivered online," Supt Penfold said.
"This reflects the hard work and dedication of our people and the AFP's commitment to embracing technological advancements in training. The successful initiative sets a strong foundation for future online training and further enhancements in our educational delivery.
"The revised curriculum means recruits receive the most contemporary and comprehensive training available, preparing them to meet the challenges of modern policing, while allowing them to be with family and friends for more of their journey to become a sworn officer."
