McLean Care Chief Executive, Sue Thomson has welcomed the successful passage of legislation for the new Aged Care Act today and thanked the Australian Government for its consultation on the new laws.
The Act, which will commence from 1 July 2025, is intended to strengthen Australia's aged care system and will increase accountability and oversight arrangements for aged care providers.
"The new laws represent a milestone for our industry and the opportunity to collectively enhance the standard of aged care across Australia and deliver the services that our aged care residents deserve," Mrs Thomson said.
"Numerous reviews have highlighted the challenges facing the aged care sector and the industry must treat this legislation as a line in the sand.
"We must do better to ensure all Australians can be assured of high quality, dignified care later in life.
"McLean Care will maintain our commitment to providing the best care and support to our residents and clients. We are proud to say that we have been successfully delivering rights-based care for our residents and today's passing of the legislation formally ensures voices of older people remain at the forefront.
"The Quality Consumer Advisory Body is one of many initiatives underway at McLean Care to improve the standards of care at our homes. It will offer constructive feedback to our governing teams, to enhance our services and deliver the highest standards of safety and quality in aged care," Mrs Thompson said.
McLean Care is an award-winning community not-for-profit organisation which cares for more than 3,200 residents and clients and employs more than 620 Australians.
