Aged Care Reforms To Become Law

AICD

The Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) has welcomed the passage of the new Aged Care legislation through the Senate.

The passage of the Bill marks a significant milestone in achieving crucial reforms in the aged care system and ensuring the ongoing sustainability of the sector into the future.

The AICD acknowledges the bipartisan effort between the Government and Opposition to deliver this landmark legislation, including urgently needed funding reform. The Opposition played a critical role in achieving this outcome and their ongoing support for the sector is welcome.

The AICD supports the introduction of the duty on providers and the rights-based framework that are contained in the legislation.

We note that criminal penalties will not apply for individual aged care directors and managers. AICD advocated strongly for this on behalf of aged care providers as it would have served as a serious deterrent to qualified, skilled directors and managers taking up roles within aged care.

The AICD looks forward to continuing our work to provide important research, policy and advocacy support to the aged care sector.
