Agreement Reached To Save Lauderdale GP Clinic

Guy Barnett, Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing

The Tasmanian Liberal Government has once again stepped up to ensure a local GP service is available for Tasmanians needing health care, this time in Lauderdale.

The Lauderdale General Practice and the Tasmanian Liberal Government have collaborated to ensure that the residents of the Eastern Shore receive the healthcare that they deserve.

Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Guy Barnett, said this is yet another example of the Tasmanian Liberal Government stepping in to ensure Tasmanians have access to primary care when and where they need it.

"We understand just how important access to a local GP service is for people in Lauderdale, and we have once again acted quickly to secure this positive outcome," Minister Barnett said.

"This will ensure the community is not left without this important primary health service and I want to sincerely thank Dr Zhan Chen, Dr Hailey Woolveridge and Dr Jerome Muir-Wilson for their work.

"It follows similar efforts to save GP practices at St Marys, Bridgewater, Glenorchy and East Devonport, and once again demonstrates our commitment to ensure Tasmanians have access to GP services - despite the repeated failures of the Federal Labor Government.

"Under our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future we want Tasmanians to receive the healthcare that they rightly deserve.

"GPs are the frontline of health care and reduce the pressure on both our EDs and our urgent care clinics, and the evidence is clear that the Federal Government are continuing to fail Tasmanians in their responsibility to adequately fund them.

"Federal Labor are leaving Tasmania off the map – it is grossly inadequate, and we will continue to fiercely advocate for what Tasmanians deserve."
