The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Berwick Victoria participated in the Yahkkerbo festival 2024. As part of the wider community outreach program and to strengthening our external links with the organisations around the community more than 50 community members participated in this event. The community members of various age group like children, women, youth and men turned up and to increase the local community connections.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community conducted a Quran exhibition and showcased many Quran translations. There were also books for various needs addressing the social issues and solutions. This also showcased our love towards community and also helped in demystifying Islam and participants asked questions and learnt about Islam and faith. The theme was Love, Peace and Tolerance which are the need of the time.
The Yakkerboo Festival has been running since 1976 is well loved by the Pakenham (and surrounding) locals. Mr Yakkerboo is a mythical bunyip character known by the locals of Pakenham, the event has a bronze sculpture in Main Street of himself and his Friend Blue. "Yakkerboo" is an Aboriginal word meaning "greener pastures". And he is celebrated each year (when virus' aren't a thing) with the Yakkerboo Festival! The theme was "What you dream of" by the organisers.
The event included activities like, food vendors, rides, market stalls, face painters, sponsors / Community Groups, entertainment, Pony Rides, Emergency services (SES) demonstrations, Picnic areas. Members of The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community engaged with people of all walks of life and specially engaged with kids and encouraged them to ask questions about Islam
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Berwick recent engagement with the local community on various occasions and at Yakkerboo festival was highly regarded and appreciated by our local community and politicians. The event was attended by more than four thousand people and many hundred visitors belonging to various backgrounds and especially kids participated with great interest.
The stall had pamphlets and books with introduction to the community and services of The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.
