As part of a burgeoning strategic partnership, the University of Adelaide and California-based leading enterprise generative AI (GenAI) technology company Ryght have signed an MOU that will help to lift South Australia's capability in the artificial intelligence sector.
The collaboration will provide the University with access to the Ryght AI platform to enable and accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) use cases across grant and industry-funded local, state and federal government initiatives - all from an Adelaide hub.
The partnership will further help establish South Australia as a leader in the Australian AI and biotech industries. It will foster collaborative research, development, and commercialisation initiatives between the two parties.
As a leader in health and life sciences, the University of Adelaide contributes significantly to Adelaide BioMed City. Adelaide BioMed City's extensive health datasets will be instrumental in harmonising Ryght's software platform with these data assets, thereby enhancing the platform's capabilities and South Australia's effectiveness in the health and life sciences sectors.
Professor Anton Middelberg, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Research) said that the University's partnership with Ryght exemplifies its commitment to advancing world-class research that addresses societal challenges.
"Ryght's expertise in GenAI aligns perfectly with the University of Adelaide's strengths in health and life sciences, particularly within the Adelaide BioMed City precinct," said Professor Middelberg.
"This partnership will provide Ryght with access to highly qualified AI researchers from the University of Adelaide who are embedded in clinical and biomedical research, giving the company an edge in the competitive race to work with the best AI talent."

The partnership with Ryght will provide a locally managed, sovereign, secure, and industry-tuned AI software platform to accelerate groundbreaking AI, research, and innovation. The University of Adelaide's Australian Institute for Machine Learning (AIML) is at the forefront of AI research, further enhancing its reputation as a leader in technology and innovation.
California-based Simon Arkell, the Co-founder and CEO of Ryght and a two-time Australian Olympian, shared his excitement about the partnership.
"As an Adelaide native now based in Silicon Valley, I am thrilled to introduce Ryght's advanced AI technology to my homeland," he remarked.

Through this partnership, Ryght and the University of Adelaide will engage in a variety of collaborative activities. These include accelerating research projects, developing new AI models, applications, and workflows, and deploying solutions nationwide at scale in a fully secure environment to solve some of the country's biggest challenges.
