U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David W. Allvin traveled to Republic of Korea on Oct. 17 to underscore the strength of the U.S.-ROK alliance and discuss opportunities for further cooperation.
During his visit, Allvin met with ROK air force Chief of Staff Gen. Lee Young-su to discuss a range of shared interests and exchange views on the security environment on the Korean Peninsula and in the Indo-Pacific region.
Allvin expressed appreciation for the ongoing close cooperation with the ROKAF and its value in maintaining "fight tonight" readiness to reinforce deterrence.
Allvin noted the value of continued bilateral training and exercises and emphasized the importance of expanding existing engagements into multilateral events.
Allvin reaffirmed the importance of U.S.-ROK-Japan trilateral cooperation, hailing progress made between air forces that includes trilateral aerial exercises.
Allvin further detailed the ongoing Department of the Air Force Reoptimization for Great Power Competition, noting it will result in a more combat-capable and responsive U.S. Air Force that can compete, deter, and, if necessary, respond to contingencies in the region.
The two sides also discussed additional cooperative endeavors that would safeguard mutual interests in the region. Allvin underscored that the U.S.-ROK Alliance remains a linchpin of peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific and around the world.
