If it wasn't for an aircraft technician's enthusiasm for aviation safety regulations, shortfalls in training might not have been identified.
Corporal Andrew Fowler from 2 Squadron mapped the current technical training for the E-7A Wedgetail against the regulatory framework.
Alongside teams from the Surveillance and Response Group and Boeing, he found deficiencies in suitable training aids and shortfalls in practical training required for regulatory compliance.
Using his knowledge in training and assessment, Corporal Fowler lead the update, which resulted in his secondment to Headquarters 42 Wing as the technical expert.
He developed the logbook for E-7A Wedgetail aircraft type training and an on-the-job logbook to meet DASR 66 requirements.
"The training was implemented at no cost and didn't impact timeframes for members to achieve military aircraft licences," Corporal Fowler said.
For his efforts, he was awarded a Conspicuous Service Medal during the King's Birthday Honours.
Corporal Fowler always had a passion for technical trades. Before enlisting in 2017, he worked as a racing car mechanic, where he learned the importance of teamwork, communication and safety compliance.
"I feel pride in the contribution I've made to the technical workforce while posted to 2 Squadron," he said.
"I am thankful for the support my chain of command and Boeing Defence Australia have provided in letting me work autonomously."
