Airservices Australia Names New Board Chair, Interim CEO

Dept of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications

I am pleased to announce the reappointment of John Weber as Chair of the Airservices Australia Board for a further 12 months to 2 June 2025, as well as the appointment of Rob Sharp as the Interim Chief Executive Officer.

Mr Sharp has been newly appointed as the Interim Chief Executive Officer of Airservices Australia for a period of up to 12 months by the Board, while a global search is undertaken to fill the role on a substantive basis.

Together, Mr Weber and Mr Sharp's knowledge and experience will provide continuity to the organisation in the coming period and help Airservices Australia navigate future opportunities and growth in aviation.

Airservices Australia is responsible for 11 per cent of the world's airspace, manages Australia's skies, aviation rescue firefighting services and helps grow Australia's aviation industry.

Mr John Weber - Chair of the Airservices Australia Board

Mr Weber has worked extensively for corporations and Australian Government agencies covering the rail, aviation, health and defence sectors.

In recent years, he also conducted major inquiries and reviews for the Australian Government, providing strategic advice to a range of government agencies.

Mr Weber has wide-ranging experience in board operations and his legal background complements those of the current members of the Airservices Australia Board, which will continue to support him in the Chair role.

Mr Rob Sharp - Airservices Australia Interim Chief Executive Officer

The appointment of Mr Sharp as Interim CEO of Airservices Australia recognises his considerable experience in aviation, business, accountancy and engineering.

He has served for two years as the Secretary of the Transport for New South Wales department and previously as CEO for both Virgin Australia Airlines and Tigerair Australia. He is also a fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society of London.
