Albany Gains 16 New Social Homes in Housing Boost

  • 16 new social homes have been added in Albany
  • Eight new social homes in Yakamia and eight new social homes in Spencer Park
  • Delivered as part of the State Government's record $4.5 billion into housing and homelessness measures

The Cook Labor Government has today unveiled the completion of 16 new social homes in Albany, providing a major boost to affordable housing in the Great Southern region.

Three two-bedroom, one-bathroom units and five one-bedroom, one-bathroom units have been built in Yakamia, while a further eight two-bedroom, one-bathroom units were also built in Spencer Park.

All of the 16 new social homes have been built to a Silver Level Livable Housing standard by local Albany builder, Wauters Building Company.

The new social homes are in the process of being allocated to people on the public housing waiting list.

The Cook Labor Government is now investing a record $4.5 billion in housing and homelessness measures.

As stated by Housing Minister John Carey:

"Another 16 new social homes in Albany will bolster the supply of safe, secure and affordable housing to the most vulnerable members of the Albany community.

"Our Government continues to do everything we can to bolster the supply of social housing across Western Australia including through our record $4.5 billion commitments in housing and homelessness reforms.

"Since the Cook Labor Government's record $4.5 billion investment in housing and homelessness measures, we've added more than 2,600 social homes, with more than 1,000 social homes currently under contract or construction, throughout Western Australia."

As stated by Albany MLA Rebecca Stephens:

"This is a tremendous outcome for the Albany community: an additional16 new social homes delivered for the local community, designed and built by local contractors.

"I'm proud to be part of the Cook Labor Government as we continue to deliver new housing across Albany, providing more safe and affordable housing to those in our community who need it the most."
