Alice Springs Assault: Suspects Arrested for Attempted Theft

Northern Territory Police have charged one youth and one adult in relation to an assault with the intention to steal that occurred in Alice Springs on Monday.

Just after 7:30pm, police received reports of two males allegedly armed with weapons within the CBD of Alice Springs. It is alleged the two have used the weapons to threaten an 18-year-old victim in a car park, before making demands the victim hand over his personal property.

The victim has fled to a nearby business with a minor injury before calling police. He did not require medical treatment.

With the co-ordinated effort of police CCTV operators and general duties members, the two males aged 14 and 21 were located and arrested without incident a short time later.

Following an extensive investigation conducted by general duties police officers, it is further alleged the two offenders have been involved in an unlawful entry and burglary that occurred in East Side earlier that day.

Both have been charged with Assault with Intent to Steal, Armed with Offensive Weapon, Aggravated Burglary, Theft and Damage Property

The 21-year-old was also charged with Breach Bail and two counts of Recruitment of Child.

Both were remanded in custody and the 21-year-old appeared in Alice Springs court yesterday. The 14-year-old is scheduled to appear in court today.
