Alice Springs Masters Games (ASMG) registrations close in a month and volunteers and athletes are still in demand. Rustle up your mates and enter as registrations for the ASMG close on Friday, 13 September 2024.
The countdown is on with just two months to go until The Games return to Central Australia from 12-19 October 2024.
People are encouraged to get amongst the action and register either for a sport or as a volunteer. There is plenty of action to be involved in from choosing to participate in almost 30 sports, to volunteering to help The Games run smoothly or simply showing your support and heading to a fixture to see the action unfold.
AFL legend Nathan Buckley is the Games ambassador, while swimming legend Dawn Fraser is the Games patron. Both sporting legends are encouraging locals and people far and wide to participate in and celebrate The Games. Behind the scenes, significant efforts have been made to support sports, including the delivery of a series of Sport Development workshops aimed at enhancing the skills and capacity of Alice Springs Sports Associations.
The Games will include a wide range of social activities with this year's Opening Ceremony taking place at TIO Traeger Park on Saturday 12 October in partnership with Alice Springs Town Council. The Games Hub will be at Lasseters Centre of Entertainment and will be a place to meet fellow competitors and encompass the registration centre and merchandise stall. The Closing Ceremony will also take place there on Saturday 19 October.
Family-friendly activities will be held throughout the Games week including the popular night markets, sports themed trivia nights, meal deals at local restaurants and cafes and more. Additionally cultural experiences and tours will also be available for those interested in exploring more about Central Australia and its people.
Known as 'The Games with Heart,' the ASMG are for a range of abilities and ages, with some sports, such as mountain biking, accepting competitors from 25-years-old, while for others it is 30. Golf, cycling, and running over various distances join 26 other sports, which range from darts, archery and lawn bowls to softball and equestrian.
The ASMG began in 1986 and is the second oldest Masters Games in the world. The Games provide a fun and inclusive sporting competition but also an opportunity to explore the stunning Red Centre from the rich history in Alice Springs to the stunning MacDonnell Ranges.
The event is delivered by Northern Territory Major Events Company on behalf of the Northern Territory Government.
The Games Fee is $99. Returning ASMG participants from 2018 have received a $10 discount code for the Games Fee. Sporting fees, set by each club, also apply for each sport that entrants register for.

Quotes from NTMEC CEO Suzana Bishop
"There's just one month to go until registrations close to the long-awaited return of the Alice Springs Masters Games. Everyone is encouraged to enter a sport and give it a go with participation and fun being the key measure of The Games."
"Volunteers are still required to assist with the running of the Games. Roles range from sport specific positions, operations, games administration and accreditation. We are carefully monitoring the numbers and need people to apply online now and be a part of the 18th ASMG.
"When not on the field, court or track there is plenty to be involved in from social activities to exploring Central Australia from a hot air balloon ride at sunrise over the MacDonnell Ranges to visiting the many museums and galleries to nature parks and natural attractions."
