Northern Territory Police are calling for information in relation to a vehicle that was stolen from a police compound in Alice Springs on Saturday.
Around 6.20pm, police were notified that three youths had stolen a motor vehicle from the police compound on the Stuart Highway a short time earlier. The vehicle, a white Isuzu D-Max, had allegedly been used by the offenders to try and ram through the compound gate, causing substantial damage. The offenders subsequently drove through a fence adjoining a neighbouring business to flee the area, last seen heading north along the Stuart Highway.
Police immediately dispatched members from general duties, point of sale intervention, Operation Ludlow, the Dog Operation Unit, alongside police supervisors to search for the vehicle.
At 11.45pm the stolen motor vehicle was sighted driving dangerously in the Alice Springs CBD. The occupants allegedly swerved towards a police car and threw rocks at it, resulting in minor damage. A short time later they reportedly threw rocks at an additional police car. No police member was injured as a result of these incidents.
Police subsequently located the vehicle and its key abandoned south of The Gap.
All unknown offenders remain outstanding, and investigations are ongoing.
