It's a long trip by bus across Queensland, but it's a journey Air Force's Corporal Bradley Burns has been happy to take a seat on.
The Mobile ADF Careers Centre (MACC) has been touring around Australia for the past year, most recently taking on its first tour of Queensland, starting in Longreach and ending in Rockhampton.
Corporal Burns joined a leg of the tour, as a Military Recruiter.
"It was great to be tapped on the shoulder, to go on that leg from Charleville to Kingaroy. I'd actually visited schools in that area in the past, so there were already a few familiar faces," he said.
The Dalby community was a stand-out for Corporal Burns during his travels.
"There was just an overwhelming number of interested applicants there, they were really excited to have the bus there," he said.
"All of the students who attended our presentation were able to visit the bus, come inside and check things out and I'm aware of a number of applications that came from that school visit in Dalby."
The MACC is able to reach regional communities across Australia that may not be close to a Defence Force Recruiting Centre, making it easier for potential candidates to learn about career opportunities, undergo physical assessments and receive guidance on the application process for joining the ADF.
The MACC is purpose-built to support the recruitment process, from application to assessment. Equipped with iPads, private individual booths and large screens, it is ready to assist ADF personnel on board when they are talking to potential candidates while on the road.
For those who may need some further support with their application, the staff on board the bus are happy to conduct one-on-one career coaching and, if the occasion arises, fitness testing.
In addition to the range of capabilities the MACC offers, Corporal Burns said the bus was stocked with all the tools needed to spread the word when visiting regional areas.
"We've got a huge array of brochures and information for prospects and candidates," he said.
The MACC will now move through Queensland to NSW in late October.
Corporal Burns said the only thing candidates needed to bring to the centre was an open mind.
"We're really after Australians that want to make an impact, with a rich and rewarding career."
