The Cook Government is encouraging more Western Australians to support vulnerable children by becoming a foster or family carer this Foster and Family Carers Week.
Now in its second year, the 'Become a foster carer Make a different to a child's life' campaign shines a light on the rewarding foster and family carer opportunities available in Western Australia.
The Cook Government is working collaboratively with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs), Community Sector Organisations (CSOs) and the private sector to ensure all hands are on deck in spreading the campaign message.
The campaign will highlight that there are foster and family carer opportunities to suit a range of lifestyles including temporary care, emergency care, short break care, and long-term care.
As part of the recruitment campaign, the Department of Communities will run information sessions at private sector organisations and Government Departments across WA to encourage more people to become a foster or family carer.
The first session will be launched with the Chamber of Minerals and Energy and Child Protection Minister Sabine Winton to encourage people to get involved.
The campaign was officially launched at Yagan Square today and will also reach Western Australians through social media, YouTube, television and radio advertising.
An interactive online map has been developed to help guide interested individuals and families to the 16 foster care providers across WA, including six ACCOs who are working to deliver culturally safe out-of-home care.
Foster and Family Carer Week is celebrated from 29 July to 4 August and is an opportunity to celebrate, acknowledge and thank foster and family carers.
There are 2,027 foster carer households across WA that play an important role in supporting children, however more carers are needed.
