Successful applicants for Round 4 of the Federal Government's 2023-24 Local Sporting Champions and Local Para Champions programs have been announced.
Federal Member for Flynn, Colin Boyce said almost $30,000 in total will be distributed to 51 young people in the Flynn electorate to help cover costs of participating in local State or National Championships.
Successful applicants are from all over the Flynn electorate, including:

- Biloela
- Boyne Island/Tannum Sands
- Calliope
- Capella
- Coalstoun Lakes
- Gladstone
- Emerald
- Gracemere
- Moore Park Beach
- Moura
- Mundubbera
- Springsure
- Thangool
- Wowan
"These successful applicants are competing or have competed in sports including Australian Football, Basketball, BMX, Cricket, Eight Ball, Gymnastics, Netball, Pony Club, Rowing, Rugby League, Rugby Union, Squash, Surf Life Saving, Swimming, Touch Football, Volleyball and Water Skiing," Mr Boyce said.
"This round included 3 National Championships for Gymnastics, Rowing and Swimming. As well as 3 athletes traveling internationally for sports including BMX, Volleyball and Eightball.
"According to Health Direct, organised sport has many physical, developmental, psychological, and social benefits for children.
"Playing sport helps children learn to control their emotions and channel negative feelings in a positive way.
"Playing sport helps children build resilience and feel better about themselves.
"Parents also play a key role in developing a child's life skills through participating in sport.
"As a proud supporter of local sport, I would like to congratulate all the successful applicants."
