The Federal Minister for Education, the Hon Dan Tehan, announced over the weekend new appointments to the Higher Education Standards Panel (HESP), which provides advice to the Minister on higher education and research.
Among the appointments was Dr David Perry, Vice-President Academic at Alphacrucis College. Dr Perry is also a board member for Independent Higher Education Australia (IHEA) and holds a number of leadership roles within the broader higher education sector.
Dr Perry expressed appreciation for his new role:
‘It’s a great privilege and an honour to be appointed to the Higher Education Standards Panel by Minister Tehan. At such a critical time for higher education in Australia, I’m looking forward to making a difference in this moment by advising on the development and implementation of important policy initiatives.”
Mr Tehan acknowledged the appointees in a statement:
“The new members will expand the skills and experience of the panel, by providing senior strategic insights into university administration and in-depth understanding of the issues affecting independent non-university higher education providers. I congratulate the new members on their appointment.”
Out of the 10 HESP members, 3 are now from independent higher education providers. This includes existing member, the Rev Dr Don Owers from St Barnabas College (associated with CSU), and new appointee, Ms Kadi Taylor from Navitas.
