As a child, Alyssa Miller was admitted to hospital. The care she received from highly skilled and compassionate nurses inspired her to pursue her own nursing career. Now, at 24 years of age, Alyssa's dream has become a reality.
"When I was younger, I was in hospital with a lung condition," she said.
"Seeing the nurses who looked after me was inspiring. I really looked up to them and I wanted to be them one day. They made a big impact on my life."
Alyssa graduated with a Diploma of Nursing from Mater Education in December last year.
"It's a big achievement for me."
"I think if you really put your mind to something you're able to do it. I've grown from being someone who wasn't very confident to finishing my Diploma of Nursing as a fully qualified enrolled nurse!"
Mater Education's Lead Educator Karen Bartlett described the Diploma of Nursing course as hands-on, hospital-based training that "sets graduates up for success".
"We're so proud of all our graduates," Karen said.
"They've come from questioning their abilities to being superstars."
Alyssa will kickstart her nursing career through the Mater Enrolled Nurses Graduate Program in February.
"My next step is starting my new job at Mater Private Hospital Springfield."
"I'm really looking forward to the opportunities ahead!"
