Alyssa Norris Named Wollongong Local Woman Of Year 2025

Member for Wollongong, Paul Scully MP, said Ms Norris has been dedicating her spare time to building an even better Wollongong for years and that naming her the Wollongong Local Woman of the Year was a fitting tribute to her efforts.

Alyssa, a passionate advocate for community safety, has dedicated most of her life to volunteering within our community. She is Vice-Captain of the Windang Surf Life Saving Club and actively participates in beach patrols, averaging 50 hours per season.

She holds several roles within the club, including first aid officer, rookie coordinator and patrol captain. Her passion for surf life saving extends to attracting new members to the club and ensuring that current members feel appreciated.

Mr Scully first met Alyssa when she was lobbying for specialised bins for the disposal of hot coals from BBQ's to be installed in Foreshore Park at Windang - bins that have now been installed by Wollongong City Council.

In September 2024, Alyssa was named 2024 Illawarra Young Volunteer of the Year. She received her award at the 2024 NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards regional Illawarra Awards ceremony which was held in Wollongong.

Alyssa has also formed meaningful partnerships with local charities including KidsWish, teaching important beach safety skills in an interactive environment, to local children living with a disability.

Her passion is engaging young people and getting them involved with volunteering and surf lifesaving.

The Local Women of the Year Awards recognise and celebrate progressive thinkers, everyday heroes, social advocates, and innovative role models.

Paul Scully MP, Member for Wollongong said:

"A big congratulations to Alyssa, this recognition is so well deserved.

"I'm proud to have Alyssa as an exceptional young role model in our community, dedicating her efforts to making Wollongong an even better place.

"At 22 years of age, Alyssa has already achieved so much. The life-long dedication she has shown to volunteering and surf life saving is nothing short of amazing."
