AMA Joins Sydney Mardi Gras for First Time

Australian Medical Association

The AMA's first ever entry into the Mardi Gras was a tremendous success.

On Saturday 1st March, the Australian Medical Association took part in our first Mardi Gras, in an opportunity to further our advocacy work, and publicly support the LGBTQIASB+ community, who are our members and their patients.

Participants of the float included AMA members and staff and AMSA Queer members, with the float being a collaboration between AMA (NSW) and AMA Queensland.

The day started with placard making and logo-ironing onto outfits at the AMA NSW offices. Participants then headed, all glittered up and keen, to Sydney CBD ready to march in the parade.

The parade itself was a joy for the sense, lots of community and organisation floats, with the AMA. It was a great showing that public acceptance, support and celebration of people who are LGBTQIASB+, is a vital part of reducing discrimination against these communities and boosting health and wellbeing.

It was lovely how welcomed the AMA was by other participants, and the excitement of the crowd for our float, a very positive first endeavour!

You can see a video wrap up of our parade, we are already looking forward to next year!
