Steve Robson has launched a major health drive as he partners with Movember to raise awareness about preventative health.
AMA President Professor Steve Robson has partnered with global charity Movember to raise awareness about preventative health and men's wellbeing.
Professor Robson announced the collaboration on social media channels on Wednesday, revealing he is embarking on a major 13-week health kick in the lead-up to his 60th birthday in mid-November.
It will be a month of milestones. Not only will it be Professor Robson's 60th birthday, it will also mark 30 years since took his first steps in his specialist career, and 20 years since Movember was founded.
To mark the many occasions, Professor Robson is attempting to get his physical and mental condition close to the way it was when he was 30, as well as trying his best to grow a "mo".
"When I look back 30 years, to the time I was taking the first steps in my specialist career, I'm pretty sure I was at the peak of health - physically, mentally, and emotionally," Professor Robson said.
"The coming anniversary has made me wonder - is it possible for a man my age, and in my circumstances to return my health to the way it was when I was 30?
"I don't think it will be that easy. But it's important - not only for me, but my family."
Professor Robson called on others to join him in the health challenge.
"There are many men my age who face the same challenges I do, not only medical colleagues, but across all groups," he said.
"I don't want to make excuses anymore and I'd like you to join me."
Professor Robson will provide fortnightly updates on his health journey, while sparking important discussions about men's wellbeing and the importance of preventative health.
