The AMA cannot support the adoption of new standards without meaningful engagement and further consultation with stakeholders.
This week we called for further consultation with key stakeholders in a submission on proposed National Safety and Quality Medical Imaging (NSQMI) Standards.
The proposed standards are a transition away from the Diagnostic Imaging Accreditation Scheme (DIAS) Standards.
Our submission to the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care notes that the proposed standards mark a significant change in accreditation processes for services and requires clinicians to adhere to more requirements in the workplace.
The AMA acknowledges the intent to align with the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards. However, this shift moves the accreditation process from a desktop evaluation to one that necessitates on-site visits. The AMA does not oppose this change but questions the justification provided by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care.
Feedback from clinicians and medical imaging services indicates their input has often been overlooked during discussions about the new standards.
We cannot support the adoption of the NSQMI Standards without meaningful engagement and further consultation with stakeholders. However, we are prepared to offer support and feedback on the draft standards if these discussions take place.
