AMA To Join Medicine Supply Action Group

Australian Medical Association

The Medicine Supply Action Group will help patients, doctors, and pharmacists.

The AMA is pleased to report our strong advocacy for a regular stakeholder forum for medicine shortages has led to the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) establishing the Medicine Supply Action Group (MSAG).

We called for the establishment of a forum like this through direct communication with the TGA dating back to 2023 and more recently through our submission to the TGA's proposed changes to reporting requirements for medicine shortages and discontinuations .

We advocated for the establishment of a dedicated forum consisting of key groups representing medicine, pharmacy, wholesalers and sponsors to replace the ad-hoc action groups that are normally formed in response to specific shortages.

We expect that this group will lead to more timely, accurate and consistent communication regarding medicine shortages for patients, doctors and pharmacists.

Our position was supported by other stakeholders, including the Pharmacy Guild .
