AMC Search Hits 100th Course Milestone with Navy

The Australian Maritime College's training division, AMC Search (AMCS), has reached a significant milestone in its collaboration with the Royal Australian Navy, delivering its 100th course under a contract focused on Autonomous Maritime Systems.

The milestone caps off a seven-year partnership between the Navy and AMCS, which has been responsible for training hundreds of Navy personnel in cutting-edge maritime technology, from autonomous underwater vehicles to advanced operational systems.

Chris White, Manager of Defence and Autonomous Systems at AMC, said the achievement is a testament to the strength of the partnership and the critical role of education in keeping Navy personnel equipped for the future.

"We are honoured to reach this 100th course milestone and look forward to continuing our close relationship with the Royal Australian Navy," Mr White said

"AMC's commitment to delivering high-quality education and training is reflected in its ability to cater to various levels of expertise, ensuring Navy personnel are well-equipped with the skills and knowledge needed for their roles."

The training courses have spanned a wide range of skills, from online introductory lessons to hands-on vocational training and advanced postgraduate education, keeping pace with the rapid advancements in maritime technology.

AMCS has developed a particular expertise in the growing field of autonomous systems, which are revolutionising naval operations around the world.

Lieutenant Commander Simon Abley, Officer in Charge of Navy's Mine Warfare Faculty, praised the partnership's impact on the Navy's readiness for future operations.

"This milestone reflects the shared commitment to excellence in training and education that has been a cornerstone of this partnership," Lieutenant Commander Abley said.

"AMCS' ongoing relationship with Navy is a testament to the calibre of the training program they offer, and the trust we place in them to deliver quality training solutions to meet Navy's emerging needs."

Beyond the 100th course, the partnership is set to continue, with a new contract extending the collaboration for another one to two years. The new agreement ensures that Navy personnel will continue to receive up-to-date training in cutting-edge autonomous technologies, supported by AMC's world-class facilities.

Located in Tasmania, the Australian Maritime College is a leading institution for maritime training, and its partnership with the Navy has been a cornerstone of its defence education program since 2017.

AMCS uses specialised facilities, such as Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) and the Autonomous Maritime Systems Test and Evaluation Centre, to give trainees hands-on experience with the technology shaping the industry's future.
