The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) has today released its second Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), Innovate, demonstrating the maritime safety regulator's ongoing commitment to reconciliation.
It follows the successful completion of AMSA's first RAP, Reflect, and outlines a 2-year action plan to mature and progress AMSA's reconciliation journey, advance reconciliation within the maritime industry, and strengthen relationships with First Nations peoples and communities during 2024-2026.
Development of Innovate was led by AMSA's Reconciliation Working Group - an employee-led group comprised of First Nations employees and allies - and involved extensive consultation with all divisions and regions.
AMSA Chief Executive Officer, Mick Kinley, said the release of Innovate is a small but important step forward in a long journey towards reconciliation.
"While the journey towards reconciliation will take time, our commitment to walking alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to be effective co-custodians in safeguarding Sea Country is as strong as ever," Mr Kinley said.
"Our Innovate RAP sees us build upon our learnings from Reflect, providing a path forward for us to take meaningful action towards creating a more equitable Australia."
Reconciliation Australia's Chief Executive Officer, Karen Mundine, commended AMSA on the release of its Innovate RAP. "Commencing an Innovate RAP is a crucial and rewarding period in an organisation's reconciliation journey," Ms Mundine said.
