Lithgow Council apologises that some households are not receiving water. It is anticipated that this will be resolved today.
Generally, this issue is occurring for households in the Marrangaroo area, though some households in villages may also be affected.
The issue is caused by very low levels in the city's large water supply tanks. These have been unable to be maintained fully because both the Farmers Creek and the Fish River supplies have been affected by the weather conditions.
The Council ceased taking water from Farmers Creek because turbidity meant that some quality standards could not be met. A break in WaterNSW's Fish River supply line then restricted the volume of water that could be sourced from there to re-charge the supply tanks. The demand for water exceeded the held storage volume meaning the full system could not deliver water to every household.
Because Marrangaroo is at the end of a network it has lost water within that system before other areas. It was hoped that the small rate of re-charge of the main water tanks would have prevented this situation but that has not been possible. Work is now being done to re-charge the Marrangaroo line by taking water from elsewhere in the system.
Unless other difficulties emerge, it is anticipated that water should be restored to all households later today.
