The peak body representing independent Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), the Independent Tertiary Education Council Australia (ITECA) has welcomed the Hon. Andrew Giles MP to his role as federal Minister for Skills and Training.
"Around 4,000 independent RTOs support around 89% of the 4.5 million students in skills training across Australia, so Mr Giles' appointment is a significant one for ITECA members and the sector more broadly," said Troy Williams, ITECA Chief Executive.
ITECA looks forward to working with Mr Giles as he continues a series of Australian Government reforms to the vocational education and training system that will reform regulatory oversight, address workforce shortages in the skills training system, put in place new apprentice and trainee employment incentives, and ensure that quality RTOs that support international students can operate sustainably.
"ITECA looks forward to working with the new Minister as we put in place reforms that place students at the heart of a high-performing skills training system that's underpinned by quality RTOs," Mr Williams said.
ITECA also acknowledged contributions of the former Minister for Skills and Training, the Hon. Brendan O'Connor MP.
"ITECA acknowledges the significance of Mr O'Connor's achievements including the five-year national skills agreements between the Australia, state and territory governments. ITECA found the Minister and his advisors always available to listen to the views of our members," Mr Williams said.
