Football Australia is delighted to announce the appointment of Andrew McKenzie to the newly created role of General Manager - High Performance.
Having worked in the English Premier League (Tottenham Hotspur FC), Australian Football League (Western Bulldogs) and Melbourne City FC, where he is currently the General Manager - High Performance, McKenzie will be responsible for the development and management of all high performance and national team programs and initiatives to maximise the physical output of the players to deliver long-term on-field success.
A leader of people and teams, with a focus on enabling athletes and coaches to achieve their best, McKenzie is the first appointment made by Head of National Teams, Gary Moretti, as part of Football Australia's enhanced National Teams' set-up.
"Andrew is a highly regarded member of the Australian football family who brings a wealth of high performance experience within both domestic and overseas team sports," Gary Moretti expressed.
"As demonstrated over the past decade with Melbourne City, Andrew has a proven track record of success across multiple teams including men's, women's and at youth level, which has been underpinned by his innovative yet strategic approach to achieving positive high performance outcomes.
"Andrew joins Football Australia at an exciting time, with the governing body investing significantly in our national teams' set-up as we look to deliver upon our strategic goal of being a leading football nation within the Asian Football Confederation and that all age groups, men's and women's, are qualifying for World Cups," concluded Moretti.
McKenzie has a degree in Physiotherapy (La Trobe University, Melbourne), as well as a degree in Orthopaedic Medicine (Middlesex University, England). He has been on Advisory Boards for Sport Science and Analytics (La Trobe University) and Football Medicine Association Australia.
Andrew McKenzie will commence with Football Australia on Wednesday, 10 July 2024.
In addition to the General Manager - High Performance, Football Australia is in the final stages of appointing a General Manager - Men's National Teams, General Manager - Women's National Teams and General Manager - Football Analysis, Data and Insights with all roles pivotal in supporting the delivery and accountability of performance outcomes aligning with Football Australia's vision as detailed in the XI Principles for the future of Australian Football.
