Another Arrest in Prison Drug Ring

Criminal Groups Squad detectives have charged an additional man over his alleged involvement in prison drug supply under Strike Force Wessex.

Strike Force Wessex was established by State Crime Command's Criminal Groups Squad in April 2023 to investigate alleged criminal groups involved in drug supply using drug run or 'dial-a-dealer' phones across Sydney.

During the investigation, detectives identified a syndicate operating within a correctional centre.

Two men were arrested earlier this year and three others – two women and another man – were arrested earlier this month with all five still before the courts.

Following further investigations, strike force detectives arrested a 44-year-old man at Parramatta Police Station yesterday (Wednesday 14 August 2024).

He was charged with participate criminal group contribute criminal activity and supply prohibited drug.

The man was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court yesterday.

Detectives will allege the group were involved in the supply of buprenorphine within a prison.

Investigations under Strike Force Wessex continue.
