- Another 13 new social housing dwellings for Katanning by the end of 2024
- Two-bedroom homes built to silver Liveable Homes standard
- Modular homes transported to WA's Great Southern region on trucks
The Cook Labor Government's continued delivery of social housing in regional Western Australia has received a significant boost with the completion of eight new homes in the Great Southern.
The new two-bedroom modular homes were built to silver Liveable Homes standard by Murray River North and Modularis in their Perth yards and transported to Katanning.
The first eight homes are now providing accommodation to former applicants from the public housing waitlist, while another five social homes are currently under construction and scheduled for completion later this year.
Since the Cook Labor Government's $3.2 billion investment in housing and homelessness measures, more than 2,450 social homes have been added across WA.
More than 1,000 social homes currently under contract or construction throughout the State.
As stated by Housing Minister John Carey:
"Our Government is doing everything it can to bolster the supply of social housing across Western Australia.
"In the face of a heated construction market, we've delivered initiatives to accelerate the delivery of social housing through a number of key reform programs including the timber frame and modular build programs.
"These modular social homes in Katanning are part of our Government's record $3.2 billion investment in housing and homelessness services throughout Western Australia."
As stated by Agricultural Region MLC Shelley Payne:
"I'm proud to be part of the Cook Government as we continue to deliver for regional WA.
"To see eight new modular social dwellings completed in Katanning is a great outcome and these will provide new homes to some of the most vulnerable members of our local community."
