Vice Consuls and Consular Agents from Mexico, Central America and Jamaica met for the annual Regional Volunteers' Conference.
Antigua Guatemala hosted the UK's regional Volunteers Honorary Consuls Conference on 14 January with more than 20 participants coming from Mexico, Guatemala, Belice, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama and Jamaica.
The event gathered consular representatives from the UK network in the region and provided them with training and the latest updates on aiding British nationals, liaising with local authorities on consular matters and strengthening ties in preparedness for large-scale crisis.
Gary Fisher, British Consular Regional Operations Manager for Mexico and Central America, led the conference in coordination with Vice Consuls in the region. Juliana Correa, British Ambassador to Guatemala, welcomed the participants to the country and thanked them for the valuable work they do in helping British Nationals, especially those who travel as tourists.
Ambassador Correa, Consul General Fisher and the Consular team of Guatemala also met with representatives of the Programme for Tourist Assistance (PROATUR) of the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism (INGUAT) to further increase collaboration in matters that would improve tourists' experience such as security, legal assistance and first care providers.
