Appeal after child approached at Albury

Police are appealing for information following a reported child approach in the Riverina region.

About 11.40am yesterday (13 December 2023), a 15-year-old boy was at the bus stop on Elizabeth Mitchell Drive, Thurgoona, about 10km north-east of Albury, waiting to catch the bus, when police have been told a driver stopped and offered the boy a lift.

The boy declined and the man drove off.

Later that day, the boy attended Albury Police Station with his mother and reported the matter.

As inquiries continue, police would like to speak with a man who may be able to assist them with inquiries.

He is described as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander appearance, in his early 30s, thin build, dark brown eyes, short black hair with faded sides and a thick black moustache.

He was wearing a small silver hoop earring on his right ear, and a dark green long sleeve t-shirt and a medium thickness silver necklace, at the time of the incident.

He was seen driving a white SUV, possibly a Honda CRV, with tinted windows and a black bike rack on top, with NSW registration plates and Green P plates displayed.

Police are urging anyone with information or who may have dashcam footage from the area at the time of the incident, to come forward and contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
