Campaspe Highway Patrol is appealing for witnesses following a head-on collision in Leitchville Sunday morning, Victoria Police say.
The collision, which caused one of the vehicles to overturn and catch fire, occurred on the Murray Valley Highway about 10.45am.
The sole occupants of each vehicle, a 75-year-old man from Birchip and a 41-year-old woman from Gunbower, died at the scene.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the driving of the white late model Jeep 4WD prior to the collision and is urging them to come forward.
It’s believed the vehicle, in which the woman was driving, was in Cohuna about 10.15am before it travelled down the Murray Valley Highway toward Gunbower.
Anyone who witnessed the white Jeep or anyone with dash cam footage is asked to contact Campaspe Highway Patrol on 5483 1533.
Police have also been told a number of motorists pulled over just after the crash and police are appealing for them to come forward.
Any witnesses are urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
