Applications For New Youth Advisory Council Now Open

Applications are now open for the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water's new Youth Advisory Council on International Climate Change.

The Council will provide the Minister for Climate Change and Energy practical and innovative advice on issues to support Australia's commitment to reach net-zero by 2050 and to advance the energy transition.

The Council will consist of 10 young people aged 18 to 30. It will run over an 18-month term (July 2024 - December 2025), with a minimum of 8 meetings.

Young Australians are encouraged to apply for the Youth Advisory Council on Climate Change if they:

  • Possess a demonstrated passion, experience or expertise on climate change, the environment or energy transition.
  • Are experienced in leadership, research, and/or volunteering roles, especially with related climate and/or youth organisations.
  • Are between the ages of 18 and 30 at the time of application.
  • Are an Australian citizen and resident for the full duration of their term.
  • Are willing and able to abide by departmental requirements, including a confidentiality agreement.
  • Are able to dedicate approximately 2-3 hours per month for calls and meetings.
