Australians looking to bring the world's best ideas into their industry or community are invited to apply for a 2025 Churchill Fellowship—a unique opportunity to travel internationally, explore global best practices, and apply them back home.
Applications for the fellowship are now open, offering funding for four to eight weeks of international travel to investigate an issue or innovation that could benefit Australian society. The level of funding depends on the location and itinerary of the approved travel.
Churchill Fellowships are open to all Australian citizens and permanent residents, regardless of industry, qualification, or background. No formal qualifications are required—just passion, curiosity, and a commitment to making a difference.
2025 marks the 60th year of the Churchill Trust, which was established in honour of Sir Winston Churchill's belief in "the wisdom of travel" and the power of open-minded exploration. Over the decades, thousands of Australians have used their Fellowships to drive meaningful change in their fields.
Past recipients include:
- Katherine Webber (2018 Fellow), who explored ways to improve public toilet accessibility by examining global policies, design innovations, and cultural attitudes.
- Megan Gilmour (2016 Fellow), who investigated international education models for keeping seriously ill children connected to their schooling—work that led to her recognition as ACT Australian of the Year and a national awards finalist.
Churchill Fellowships have had a transformational impact across countless sectors, from healthcare and education to environmental sustainability, the arts, and social services.
Applications close 1 May 2025.
