We are seeking expressions of interest for a new Chair and potential new members on the Indigenous Advisory Committee (IAC).
The IAC is an independent, expert, statutory committee established under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).
Applications are invited from First Nations peoples who have expertise in:
- Indigenous land and sea management
- conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity; and/or
- cultural heritage management.
Successful applicants will also have:
- effective communication skills
- a proven ability to build relationships
- a strong understanding of the EPBC Act, ministerial priorities and the department's objectives
- time to commit to the role and the ability to work closely with the Chair and secretariat
- experience on committees or similar governance bodies.
The IAC provides expert First Nations advice to the Minister for the Environment on the operation of the EPBC Act, taking into account the significance of First Nations peoples' knowledge of the management of land, sea and the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity.
The successful candidates will be appointed to these statutory positions on a part-time basis for a period of up to 3 years. Remuneration is set under the Remuneration Tribunal Determination for Part-time Public Office Holders.
