The Governor has appointed the Hon Robert Benjamin AM SC as Tasmania's inaugural Child Safety Reform Implementation Monitor.
The establishment of a Child Safety Reform Implementation Monitor was a key recommendation (Rec. 22.11) of the Commission of Inquiry.
Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Guy Barnett, congratulated Mr Benjamin on his appointment.
"The independent Monitor will be responsible for holding the Government to account by monitoring and reporting progress of the Commission's recommendations," the Attorney-General said.
"Mr Benjamin has extensive experience in this space, most recently having played an integral role as a Commissioner during the recent Commission of Inquiry.
"Additionally, Mr Benjamin has a strong history in mediation, arbitration, negotiation and other forms of dispute resolution.
"This is a vitally important role that is about ensuring accountability and maintaining the Tasmanian Government's progress towards delivering on all 191 recommendations.
"Mr Benjamin's appointment is for a period of five years and follows a nationally advertised recruitment process led by an international search agency.
"Our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future seeks to make Tasmania the best it possibly can be – the successful delivery and implementation of all 191 recommendations is non-negotiable."
